What happens if you don’t file your own tax returns? You probably won’t hear from IRS if they think you would have gotten a refund. However, IRS sometimes prepares their own substitute version (SFR) of your tax return, based on “worst case” assumptions. It is up to you to file your own “accurate” tax return.
