Chuck Trautman, EA, Enrolled Agent
Charles TrautmanEnrolled Agent (EA)
An Enrolled Agent is federally licensed to practice before the IRS, and that license carries one thing a lot of tax preparers don't have: the authority to represent any taxpayer, in any state, on any tax matter. Chuck Trautman has held it since he opened Tax Shop in 2010.
In plain terms: if your return turns into a notice, an audit, or a collections letter, he deals with the IRS for you instead of handing you a phone number and wishing you luck. And he isn't a storefront that disappears on April 16th; the people he files for tend to stay for years, so each season picks up where the last one left off.

Plain-language help with the returns that matter to you
Every return is different, so pricing is by quote once Chuck sees what's involved. Ask when you call.
Federal and state returns for individuals and families, including the years that got complicated: a move, a home sale, retirement income, a side business. This is the core of the practice, not an afterthought.
Schedule C sole proprietors, partnerships, and small S-corps, kept straight and filed on time, with the deductions you're actually entitled to.
Audits, collections, and prior-year or back returns. As an Enrolled Agent, Chuck speaks to the IRS on your behalf and works the problem instead of leaving you to face it alone.
Send your documents through an encrypted portal and get your return e-filed. No unencrypted email, no mailing sensitive paper across town.
How tax prep at the Tax Shop goes
Send your documents
Upload to the secure portal, or bring them by the office. Whatever's easier for you.
Chuck prepares your return
He does the work himself and flags anything worth a conversation before it's final.
You review it together
Go through the return, ask questions, and understand exactly what you're signing.
He e-files it
Your return goes to the IRS electronically, and a copy stays on record for next year.
Never have to come into the office if you'd rather not. The portal and a phone call cover most of it.
Built on referrals, not advertising
Tax Shop has never really run ads. The practice grew the way the good ones do, with one client telling another that they'd finally found someone they trusted with this.
Plenty of the people Chuck files for now have been coming back for ten years or more, some since the office opened in 2010. Returning clients are most of the practice, which is why each January starts from last year's file rather than from zero.
Chuck is great! He got more money back for us this year that we were not even aware of (we didn't know summer camps and child care expenses were tax deductible). We got audited last year using TurboTax. Chuck redid our tax and we ended up paying much less than the IRS calculated.
I have been going to The Tax Shop for 8 years now. Chuck is a very knowledgeable and experienced tax person who is very reasonable when it comes to cost. […] I am legally blind, and when I turned down his offer for a ride to the light rail station, he still walked me to a safe point where I was able to get my bearings for a safer walk. Simply put, he is a great guy and is great at what he does.
Working with Chuck and his team for over 10 years. The best.
